Meet James

Rep. James Burchett and his family

James Burchett is a proud South Georgian and lifelong conservative who represents the people and priorities of House District 176. He grew up in a military family and is deeply proud to support our veterans – both through his work at the Capitol and in his community.

James and his wife, Misty, met at Georgia Southern University, where he played football and she was a cheerleader. After college they returned to Waycross, raising their two sons, Brodie and Beau.

A devoted husband, father, and man of faith, James is an active member of Indian Mound Baptist Church. When he’s not in Atlanta, you’ll often find him coaching his sons’ baseball, football, or basketball teams – passing on the same values of hard work, discipline, and teamwork that have guided him throughout his life.

Before being elected to the Georgia House of Representatives, James served as Ware County’s Chief Building Inspector. He’s a small business owner and partner at Burchett & Kemp, a member of the Waycross Exchange Club, and the Waycross Chamber of Commerce, and a graduate of Leadership Waycross.
